Sharpen Your Sword and MAKE WAR!

Yep… This is why Christians need to sharpen their swords.

Ephesians 6:17
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word ofGod.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges thethoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Do you know your Bible well enough to answer the questions that these people have about the Bible. They are trying to use their interpretation of the Bible against the true exegetical interpretation and if our swords are not sharp then they will succeed.

If we as Christians know that the Bible is true…

2 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Then we need to start sharpening our sword and understanding what the Bible says and why it says what it does.

We live in a world where Life and Death are trying to be muddled together. Right and Wrong become subjective and striving to seek Truth is viewed as being “intolerant” and “bigoted.” Humanism and Universalism are the direction we are going and where God is not, Death has it’s way.

We are called haters and we are hated. But that’s okay because they hated Jesus first and He has overcome.

The World Hates the Disciples

18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. We still have an obligation as Christians to speak what is true, noble and right and to have these things on our hearts and minds. 

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

 

Also, the Bible calls us to bring the Truth where lies prevail, and where lies prevail, the Deceiver dwells. This is Spiritual Warfare. Our enemy is not flesh and blood. Hate the sin and love the sinner Christians.

 

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

 

 

This is why I sharpen my sword. This is why I am preparing for battle. Sharpening our sword involves not only reading but studying the word. I have read through the entire Bible and could not give the most concise and accurate answer to demolish the arguments set up in the video above. The arguments come from an interpretation of Scripture that is used against us. This is not the first time this has happened.

Matthew 4:1-11

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil.After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
    and they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

 

So like Jesus, our swords must be sharpened. In Jewish tradition the Jewish boys were taught to memorize the entire Torah, it was that important!

This is why I am taking a whole semester of college and studying the Bible and understanding specifically what it says about homosexuality. The goal of this study is to equip Christians like you all to respond to arguments like the ones found in this video.

Christians, how do you accept to stand a chance if your sword is dull. Sharpen your sword! Make WAR!

About this song:

  As a Biblical and Religious Studies major I have been interested in studying the theology of Christian worship. I plan to write a paper on the topic at some point during my college career at Grove City. Additionally, writing a worship song has been something I have always wanted to do. Slightly intimidating, BUT I have found that the very best lyrics in worship songs that I have heard are the ones that come straight from Scripture. The Word of God is full of beatiful Psalms that have been used in countless Christian Worship Songs. I made it a goal for myself that the first worship song I ever wrote would contain lyrics that are straight from Scripture and that these lyrics would be organized in such a way that the they portray a clear, uplifting and theologically accurate message. What could bring a more encouraging message in a worship song besides scripture itself.

  I was reading Psalm 103, written by David, and was absolutely hooked on the passage. The passage foretells the Gospel that has always been a part of God’s plan but was not fulfilled until thousands of years after this Psalm was written. The Gospel is everything! It is the only reason that Christians have hope! As Paul states in 1 Corinthians 15:14:

 ”And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”

I wanted to write a song that was about the Gospel because it is the most important thing to me and the rest of humanity! It is the only hope we have! It is the only reason I have purpose! It’s EVERYTHING!

  I love the way that this Psalm declares the transendance and imminence of God. He is the GREAT God who has created everything and is sovereign over the entire universe, but is simultaneously intimate with his creation and is, ”compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8). I was excited to compose a song that explains the sovereign hand of God over ALL creation and how ALL of creation was created to worship Him. I also loved structuring it to declare the Salvation from God by His act of sending his son to die and rise so that ALL of me may be set free. His Sacrifice was once for ALL! As soon as I became a Christian, ALL of me was set free from the shackels of sin. There was nothing I could do to earn salvation and nothing that I have yet to do to earn it. Christ’s death and resurrection accounted for ALL that was needed for my justification before God. Hence the name of the song… ALL

The lyrics contained in this song are one of three things: 

1) Scripture Verbatim.

2) Scripture that is almost verbatim but words were changed to fit the rhythm and rhyme of the song.

3) Concepts that are COMPLETELY Scriptural and find support in numerous places in the Bible.

For those of you who know him, I brought the lyrics of this song to Dr. Schaefer, the head of the Religion department at Grove City College and a respected Theologian. I asked Him to make sure that the song portrayed a theologically accurate message and that it was also clear and well composed. He gave the thumbs up and I was ready to play the song and share it with friends.

What you’ll find below is something that I hope to do with EVERY single worship song I write from now on. I want those who are exposed to the songs to be able to have an easy way to determine that the content is scriptural and also, to encourage listeners to get in the WORD! The one thing that is becoming more and more abundantly clear to me is that I am in desperate need of the Holy Spirit and His operation in my life. I composed this song, but it was definitely a God-thing. As a Believer, the Holy Spirit is CONSTANTLY involved in my life but I must take the time to build and nuture His work in my heart and my relationship with Him.
